The Kuala Lumpur Maybank Tower is known as Menara Maybank and is located along Jalan Tun Perak. This is among the most prominent skyscrapers in Malaysia and is more so since it is located in the city centre of Kuala Lumpur. Menara Maybank houses the headquarters of Malayan Banking Berhad, the largest bank in Malaysia.
With a total floor space of more than 1.8 million square feet, it has 50 floors of office space to offer. The Menara Maybank is built at 799 feet high and steadily sits on top of a small hill along the vicinity of Kota Raya Shopping Complex and Central Market not far away.
The Maybank Tower has a very contemporary design which is the work of Hijjas Kasturi Associates, whose design includes the recent Menara Telekom and is one of the most renowned Malaysian architects in the region. Built by Taisei Construction Co, Menara Maybank has office spaces and Maybank branch as well as the very popular Maybank Numismatic Museum.
Construction of Menara Maybank started in 1984 and was supposed to be enacted on Court Hill. It would take 3 years for the construction to complete where it would become the tallest building in Malaysia until 1995 when the Petronas Twin Towers was built. Basically, the motif of Menara Maybank was 2 square-based blocks being interlocked with each other on the corners which give the building its unique signature. From a certain angle, it looks as if Menara Maybank is made up of blocks that are intertwined.
